Sarees

*Loved* the Saree shops.
Fabric shopping in India is a whole different experience from buying at the Mill End store. For starters, you walk in and take a seat. Someone brings you a cup of chai, or a cold Pepsi (it's 95 degrees out after all) and the shop owner starts pulling sarees off the shelves, unfurling them for your appraisal, gaging your interest in the color, the border, the brocade, the drape of the fabric, etc. These are the best salesmen I've ever encountered from the standpoint of being able to see what attracts the customer's eye and then pulling out more and more PERFECT options from the shelves. The rejects were just tossed to the side in a heap of fabric and they kept pulling from the shelves. At the end of the shopping experience, there's a mountain of fabric in the corner and the ones you want are neatly packaged in nifty little cloth bags.
