Marfa, Marfa, Marfa!

I'm in love with the Thunderbird Hotel. It's a throwback to the motels we stayed in in the '70's, those cheap places we could afford to stay as a family of 5, only now it's done up with chic designer furnishings and clean, sparse rooms that have all the amenities you could want but no fussy stuff. It was a nice surprise to find a friendly staff rather than a bunch of disinterested hipsters. I was particularly excited to see the record players available for rent--the kind that look like a suitcase when closed--and a respectable selection of LP's in the lobby available for check-out. I also loved the juxtaposition of designer furnishings with cowhide rugs and cowboy blankets. It was a nice high/low-brow mix. They also had the cutest candy-colored bikes (in the vein of the Bianchi Milano) available for guests to use to cruise around town were it not 90 degrees out. (Call me high maintenance, but that's prohibitively hot for biking as far as I'm concerned.)
