reuse, renew, recycle

This was one of my favorite sights--soda bottles filled w cooking oil. Can't explain it, but I just loved the necessity-is-the-mother-of-invention-ness of that. We need a bottle, what do we have a lot of? Let's use it! And all the brand managers in all of those international soda companies have conniptions over it.

The green slimy looking things in the upper right of this picture are water chestnuts. Even our guide was grossed out by the prospect of eating a water chestnut out of the rivers we saw.
